MIAMI REALTORS® continues to celebrate Pride Month, National Homeownership Month, and Juneteenth, not just in June, but throughout the year, and as we look forward to the celebrations of America’s freedoms on Independence Day, we urge all Realtors® to take this opportunity to recommit and rededicate ourselves to freedom, equity, and fair housing.

Pride, diversity, and inclusion are lifelong commitments. The House of Representatives passed the Equality Act in 2019, and NAR embraced the significance of the protections of the Fair Housing Act well before that. In 2009, NAR amended the Code of Ethics to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

In 2021, NAR further amended the Code of Ethics to create Standard of Practice 10-5, which prohibits “harassing speech, hate speech, epithets, or slurs based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity” in all of our REALTORS®’ activities. MIAMI REALTORS® remains committed to protecting and promoting professional standards for REALTORS® through continued enforcement the Code of Ethics. If you see or hear something, say something.

Home and property ownership is the centerpiece of the American Dream and the pathway to economic well-being and intergenerational wealth building. This is especially meaningful as we observedJuneteenth, which was declared a federal holiday in 2021, and which is the anniversary of the day in 1865 when soldiers notified the last group of enslaved Black Americans of their freedom. MIAMI REALTORS®, just like the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, approaches Juneteenth as an opportunity to enhance our work to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.

There is no room for discrimination – of any kind – in real estate.
