Amendment 5 could give Florida homeowners more savings on their property taxes by adjusting one of the state’s homestead exemptions for inflation. Amendment 5, placed on the ballot by Florida lawmakers, would create an inflation adjustment for the second of those two $25,000 homestead exemptions. Amendment 5 is on the November ballot.

According to a newly released report from the Fort Lauderdale Downtown Development Authority, the downtown area’s population increased 35.4% between 2020 and 2023 to 26,083 people. It’s projected to rise another 28.1% between 2024 and 2028 – a much higher pace than the downtown areas of West Palm Beach (24.6%), Miami (18.9%), and Tampa (15%), the DDA stated.
