The 5-Minute Meeting Series | 2024
Sowing Seed
Sales Meeting Topic: Sowing Seed
Meeting Number 5MIN015
Category: Motivational – Prospecting
Materials Needed: Flip Chart, packets of seeds for each team member (optional)
Estimated Time: 5 – 10 Minutes
PowerPoint Available: No
Meeting Objective: To help your team understand that prospecting is like sowing seed. Sometimes, the fruits of your labor may take time, but through careful watering, tilling, and nurturing, you can have a major impact over time.
Hand out packets of seeds (if chosen to use) and ask the following:
Let me ask you this question: If you planted these seeds today, how long would it take before you could see the plant bear its crop? Would the plant require your help to survive?
Allow for time from your group to discuss your two questions.
STEP #1
Re-Cap with your group the following statement.
Can you begin to see the picture of planting seeds and the time it takes to reap their benefits? Guess what? Prospecting and your real estate career are no different than that tiny seed in our illustration. If you want to see the benefits of prospecting, you have to wait patiently for the results.
The other key ingredient to prospecting is that you must provide some assistance to nurture the seeds you planted into becoming profitable.
Ask: Let’s think about prospecting for a moment, and list some activities we can do to generate business.
Allow your group some time to provide some activities that will help generate business. List the ideas on your flip chart or have the group write down the responses on the handout included with this meeting.
Note: Some possible ideas might include:
- Send out postcards to new and old customers
- Write letters to past customers
- Use a sphere of influence from friends and family
- Contact FSBO (For-Sale-By-Owners)
- Contact expired listings through the mail
- Farm a geographical area in our community
- Run online advertisements
- Hold open houses
- Blogging
- Podcasting
- Hold seminars for buyers and sellers
- Along with many other ideas we could list
Closing
Close by reading the following:
One reason many people fail to regularly prospect is that prospecting does not offer immediate results. You farm a particular area of the community for new business, and nothing happens. You send hundreds of postcards and wait for the phone to ring the next day, but the call never comes. Then you tell yourself it was a waste of time, so your prospecting slowly ends.
However, for example, when planting seeds, additional work is needed. If all you had done for the seed was plant it, the chances of survival would be slim to none. You had to water, weed, till, and provide sunlight for the plant to bear its crop. So, too, is prospecting. Each month will require additional activities for you to perform to reap the harvest.
Remind your team to keep prospecting and to discover new ways to stay in touch with their prospects regularly.
