Changing Communities: MIAMI Realtors Partners to Create Pet-Friendly Destination for Local Residents

by | May 07, 2019

Local pet owners have a new destination to exercise their pets thanks to the MIAMI Association of Realtors (MIAMI) and the City of Coral Gables partnering to install a new pet-friendly hydration station at Betsy Adams Park in Coral Gables. Regular exercise is important for dogs to have an improved quality of life and avoid illness.

“Coral Gables has a high number of pet owners and we feel the new pet-friendly hydration station will encourage more residents to utilize the beautiful new Betsy Adams Park,” 2019 MIAMI Chairman of the Board José María Serrano said. “Betsy Adams Park opened on March 17, 2018 in honor of Adams, a civic leader and past president of the Coral Gables Garden Club. A pet-friendly hydration station was needed to complete the park.”

MIAMI and Coral Gables inaugurated the new fountain, which was paid through grant funds from the National Association of Realtors (NAR), on Dec. 15.

Changing Communities Initiative

The Betsy Adams Park hydration station investment is part of MIAMI Realtors Changing Communities initiative, which launched in 2017. In 2018, MIAMI Realtors invested more than $175,000 in grant funds from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) to improve our South Florida communities.

Through member engagement and feedback, MIAMI developed a list of local community projects that could have the most impact. MIAMI invited its 46,000-plus membership for a brainstorming session and more than 200 members contributed ideas and volunteered to help.

In 2018, MIAMI led more than 18 local community initiatives, including a dinner for the homeless at Chapman Partnership in Miami, partnering to install a Jupiter dog park, creating a shaded Doral trolley stop and more. Each project was led by the Realtor who proposed it and supported by a team of fellow Realtor volunteers and a Realtor partner (usually an elected official).

More MIAMI Realtors Changing Communities initiatives are planned for 2019.
